Recycling doesn’t need to be a huge life changer nor does it need to be hard work.
There are a few simple ways you can change your lifestyle which can make a huge impact on the environment.
Here are our top tips:
Learn a new skill and up-cycle your old furniture. You can find some great ideas here.
Avoid wrapping leftovers and sandwiches in cling film. Use Tupperware boxes instead to eliminate waste.
To reduce recycling at home, try and avoid buying fruit and vegetables from the supermarket that are already in packaging, buy them loose instead.
Make sure you’re cleaning the items you put into the recycling. If not, you’re at risk of cross contaminating meaning the item will be discarded rather than recycled.
Have 2 separate bins, one for recycling and one for your main rubbish. You can also extend this to all rooms of the house.
You can recycle aerosols cans. Ensure they are completely empty, do not pierce or flatten the cans.
You can also recycle foil from your kitchen, ensure it is clean before you put it into the bin.
Instead of throwing out old toys, send them to a charity shop.
Use your old items to keep the kids entertained by creating something new.
