This October half term we had a week of fun at Barracudas Huntingdon camp! It may have only been 5 days but we packed a lot in and the camp was buzzing with excitement.
As well as the usual amazing range of activities children had the chance to take part in a number of sessions designed specifically for half term. From specialist sports coaching sessions to a giant inflatables takeover, kids had a blast at Barracudas October half term camp.
From football fanatics to first timers, a Football Champions masterclass was available on Monday 21st October for all children and abilities.
Led by a qualified and passionate instructor, kids were guided through skills drills, techniques and full on matches. Split by age groups, children received age appropriate coaching in a fun and engaging extended session.
Ideal for all ages and abilities, on Tuesday 22nd kids really got their teeth into the specialist extended cricket coaching session at Barracudas.
Whether they were new to the game or already a passionate player, kids had fun, were challenged and improved their skills at camp.
Our qualified coach took the kids through fielding, batting and bowling drills and progressed into game situations. They definitely had fun, made new friends and improved their skills during this course!
Netball is a wonderful team sport, encouraging and teaching all children important fundamental skills.
Also held on Tuesday, our specialist coach designed these sessions to develop key skills such as throwing, catching and passing as well as to help gain an understanding of the rules.
Through a variety of fun and inclusive drills and games the children were then ready to don a bib and jump into game play!
On Wednesday all their favourite giant inflatables were available in the sports hall. Children had a blast bouncing between them with our fully trained staff on hand to keep them safe.
Kids got the chance to jump around not just 1 but 5 giant inflatables! We took over the sports hall with 2 Twin Lane Assault Courses, the Balloon Assault Course and 2 Energy Assault Courses. It’s our guess that they slept well on Wednesday night!
Also on Wednesday, the children got creative and created something beautiful out of something which would have otherwise been thrown away at Barracudas.
They looked at some of the animals and plants that live in the sea and our instructor guided them to consider how their shapes and colours could be best interpreted by combining the materials to hand.
Children were resourceful and got creative to produce their masterpiece from the varied items they had available to them.
Yoghurt pots, bottles, cans and lots of other recycled items were transformed to create an underwater themed metropolis which was displayed at the registration and collection area of camp on Friday.
On Thursday kids got the chance to express themselves during the specialist dance workshop!
This extended session was led by Sarah Monkman who is a fully qualified dance instructor. Sarah started dancing at 13 years old and then went on to perform with The Sarasota Ballet in Florida for a number of years before returning to the area in 2017 to teach dance at her former school.
Children really engaged with this session and Sarah inspired them to unleash their inner performers!
The recycled art attack continued on Thursday, this time with a tricky twist.
We looked at how to use recycled items to create the components of Halloween themed games that the children then played with on the Friday Theme Day.
This included painting cans with spooky characters for tin can bowling, making pumpkin islands, pin the spider on the web and other ghoulish games that their imaginations conjured up!
On the last day of October Half term camp Barracudas went all out with a spooky feel.
Kids loved taking part in our Halloween themed party games available to each group as part of the standard timetable.
From ghost skittles to pin the spider on the web, they had frightful fun at camp!
Fridays are extra special at Barracudas and this October half term kids got the chance to go even wilder with our Halloween Hullabaloo Theme Day.
We loved welcoming spooky children in Halloween themed outfits to camp and ending the busy week at Barracudas with a real party feel, going out with a bang on the very last day at camp in 2019!
A huge thank you to all the children and staff who made Barracudas October half term camp such a success this year. We hope to see you all again next year!
