We’re giving you an insight into what makes Barracudas tick. Although our camps are seasonal, we have a team that work at our head office in Cambridgeshire throughout the year.
Every week we’ll be giving you an insight into our wonderful teams!
This week we chat to the recruitment team.
What does the recruitment team do?
Maddie: We recruit all our seasonal staff for our Easter and summer camps.
Emily: We recruit new and returning staff who fulfil a variety of different roles which include lifeguards, early years staff, group staff etc.
Gintare: We have over 1800 staff to oversee. This includes doing background checks, DBS, putting them onto relevant training courses and issuing them contracts.
Alex: Making sure we recruit the best staff for all of our camps.
Best part of your job?
Emily: When you meet the staff at recruitment days such as assessment, training and senior selection days, it’s really nice to put a face to a name.
Maddie: It’s really rewarding watching the staff in action at the camps and watching them progress throughout Barracudas. Lots of our staff start out as a red shirt and progress through to blue.
Natalie: I love getting positive feedback from the staff at camp, it’s lovely to hear how much of a good time they have working for us.
Why do you love working for Barracudas?
Sam: I love how much fun we have working with each other. It’s such a good culture in the office, it doesn’t feel like work a lot of the time.
Emily: We’re often doing events as part of a team in the office. For example, next week the office is taking part in a 5-a-side football tournament for charity. It’s a great way for us to all socialise with each other away from work.
Maddie: Our mid-season socials are also really fun. It is a perfect opportunity to meet all of our staff from camp and have a good time!
Gintare: We’re always setting incentives for each other. We play the Baywatch song every time we recruit a lifeguard; random but it’s fun!
What is your favourite activity at camp?
Emily: I would say rounders as I always enjoyed it at school and everyone can take part – no matter your age or ability.
Alex: I find that motor sports adds an extra level of excitement at camp.
Maddie: Dodgeball! I actually starred in one of our training videos where I played dodgeball. The only problem is I got hit a lot!
Shannon: I love arts and crafts because of all of the glitter! I also like how relaxed and calm it is.
Sam: I am MA trained on camp so archery is definitely my favourite.
Gintare: I love vehicles so motor sports for me!
Natalie: I play hockey in my free time, so unihoc is my favourite activity.
Anything else to add?
Shannon: I would say the recruitment team is extremely competitive and all of us like to win. Because of this we have set up numerous point systems as incentives.
Emily: Fun fact, the recruitment team has a total of 18 years’ experience with all of us combined!
