Staff are a big part of the activity camp experience.
You can be reassured that Barracudas employs high quality staff across our camps. All of our staff have an enhanced level DBS check. Over 70% of Barracudas staff are fully or nearly qualified teaching professionals or specialist instructors, familiar with the strict guidelines of a childcare setting. Every staff member also needs to attend a Barracudas assessment day before they’re able to work at camp.
That said, we know it's all about the personal experience at camp. You can get an insight into the people who'll be looking after your kids with our Meet the Team series.
Meet Group Leader, Alice
What's your role at Barracudas and what do you love about it?
I am a Group Leader for the Dolphins group, which are the 6 year olds. I decided to go for this role as I enjoy working with children, in particular younger kids. I find it really satisfying and feel like I make a difference in their lives. I wanted to be a Group Leader as I get to work with the same group throughout the week, this means that I can get to know them all individually and see first hand how they grow in confidence and develop their skills.
Why did you choose to work at Barracudas?
I heard of Barracudas through a friend of mine who had said she worked at a camp and really enjoyed her time there. This was the first I had heard of activity camps but definitely caught my interest. After searching and looking into the company I realised that there was a venue local to me and looking at their values I discovered that this would be an ideal place for me to work, especially because it's outside of term time so I could work there whilst studying on during the University break.
How many seasons have you worked at Barracudas?
I've completed 4 seasons at Barracudas. I have done 2 summer seasons, an Easter season and an October half term.
What’s your favourite thing about working at Barracudas?
My favourite thing about working for Barracudas is the amazing atmosphere and working environment. On camp you get to work with so many like minded individuals who all have similar interests to you. They all enjoy working with children and helping them. You get to know your colleagues really well and develop some genuine friendships.
Has Barracudas helped you in your current role?
Barracudas has helped me develop so many transferable skills that will be useful for numerous jobs. From working in a team, taking leadership and learning how to be flexible when plans change to developing my impersonal skills, as you get the chance to communicate and build relationships with such a variety of people.
Why do you keep returning to Barracudas?
I keep returning as it is a part time job during the school/university holiday period because I enjoy it so much! I find it so much more rewarding than previous jobs that I've had. Also working with colleagues and children that are now familiar and I have a real bond with is a really nice benefit and makes it easy to come back.
