Weekly Themes for summer camp 2023
We like to keep things varied and exciting here at Barracudas holiday camps; no two days are the same and no two weeks are the same.
Whether your child is staying for one week or the whole summer they will be entertained and engaged throughout with a wide variety of activities to take part in.
Every week we have a different weekly theme, with activities tweaked slightly to enjoy throughout the week. This brings a bit of extra excitement to camp and means each week feels unique and special.
Throughout the week excitement builds for our Friday Finale, the last day of the week at camp, there is always a special ‘buzz’. As well as a fun end of week themed event, we invite the kids to come to camp in fancy dress to match the theme. Of course, it's their choice if they want to don a special hat or bring a prop. They'll also get the chance to make their own fancy dress props in arts and crafts sessions in the week. They'll have a great time in their usual clothes too!
Don’t worry parents, it needn’t be a last-minute scramble to the supermarket to buy new costumes or slaving away at night to create a masterpiece. We’re here to help you out and we certainly don’t want to add any extra stress to your day! So to keep it simple how about trying some of our DIY ideas...
Weekly themes homemade costume ideas
17th – 21st July: Intrepid Explorers
It’s all about adventures and adventurers this week at camp. Letting their imaginations go wild, perhaps building dens or practice their navigation skills with orienteering challenges.
Fancy dress ideas: Dig out a pair of old binoculars (or better yet craft some out of some empty loo rolls!), add your favourite cuddly toy aka wild animals from the jungle ;)
Come equipped with an explorer hat and map – easily printed online or expertly drawn by you!
24th – 28th July: Animal Avatar
Get ready to go wild! We’ll be finding our inner animals this week. Pouncing like tigers, slithering like snakes and flying like an eagle, kids get to explore different animals through creative play, dance and drama, arts and crafts and maybe even a bit of face paint!
Fancy dress ideas: Pop on a pair of ears, or go for the full furry onesie, maybe even add a tail made out of a pair of tights or stick with some simple face paint or mask.
A bit of animal print goes a long way too! Animals come in all different colours, feathery or furry, spotty or stripy we can’t wait to see some wonderful outfits!
31st July – 4th August: The Greatest Show
Get ready to razzle dazzle ‘em and sparkle and shine all the way to Friday Finale! We’re heading to the stage this week, celebrating their talents through dance and drama, juggling, twirling, dancing or just clowning around!
Fancy dress ideas: Sparkles, sequins and ribbons always look fantastic when it comes to performing, or how about trying a top hat on for size to be the perfect ring master? A red nose, and silly wig are easy to come by and look great as a funny clown.
7th – 11th August: Under the Sea
Let’s dive under the sea to see what we find...
Exploring the wonderful underwater world and all its rich marine life this week, with activities such as creating their own under the sea crafts and aqua sliding their way through the ocean.
Fancy dress ideas: ‘Oh I do like to be beside the seaside’.... T shirts, and board shorts, sun dresses and flip flops. Or think mermaids and pirates - the world is their oyster! Get those sun hats out and rock some cool shades for our seaside Friday.
14th – 18th August: Sports Heroes
We love sports days here at Barracudas! Every day is active and full of sports and games. This week we’ll be playing more games, taking on team challenges, making medals out of clay and even painting our faces! To round off the week we are inviting kids to come dressed as their sports idol, is there an Andy Murray here, or a Katrina Johnson-Thompson among us?
Fancy dress ideas: Throw on your gym kit, or some tennis whites, bring your sporting prop be it a tennis racket or a pair of boxing gloves, and spend the day as a sporting hero!
21st – 25th August: Colours of the Rainbow
It’s time to get colourful! Celebrating all the colours of the rainbow and more this week at camp. We’re going bold and beautiful in our arts and crafts projects, creating colourful masterpieces, and getting active in our colour themed mini-Olympics. On Friday be creative, anything goes! Choose your favourite colour or come dressed like a rainbow. Let’s not forget black or white too.
Fancy dress ideas: Colour theme your clothes or wear the rainbow! An easy dress up theme to follow this week - let the kids choose!
Barracudas weekly fun
Here at Barracudas, we're proud to be able to offer such a wide variety of different activities, enabling us to give your child freedom to choose which activity they would like to take part in for each session. Our weekly themes and Friday Finale add to the variety and excitement to keep the children entertained and engaged whether it's for one week or 5!
