What you think about childcare during COVID-19

The pandemic has been a difficult time for many people.

We know that, for parents, a key concern is how to keep their kids safe whilst also keeping a level of normality to their lives within the new restrictions.

Part of the challenge is the issues related to sending children to outside services such as school and clubs.

We recently conducted a survey to gauge your priorities, concerns and considerations relating to childcare and activity camps during COVID-19.

We wanted to know what you think

We’re excited to be returning in 2021 and able to offer kids fun in a safe environment during the school holidays again.

Before we open we’re working hard, with a dedicated team, to make sure we can offer COVID-19 Secure Camps. We’re fully up to date with official guidance and have created our COVID-19 Secure Camps Policy to reassure you that your child will be in the safest of hands at Barracudas.

On top of that, we wanted to know what you felt about out of school childcare options during the pandemic so we can make sure we’re able to meet your expectations and needs and also respond to any concerns you may have.

The results are in!

We were really pleased that so many of you participated in our survey, with over 1,500 individuals completing it! This is a robust response and so gives us a really clear indication of the general consensus amongst you about childcare settings during COVID-19.

The low-down

You indicated there’s still a very real need for childcare in the school holidays, with activity camps being the most popular option.

You still want to keep kids active, entertained and engaged in the holidays during the pandemic. Only 8% claimed you were happy for their children to stay at home during the holidays, with 92% wanting alternative solutions.

The greatest motivation seems to be keeping your kids entertained; 93% either agreed or strongly agreed that you wanted to give them something fun to do, whilst 89% agreed that you needed somewhere for them to go whilst you’re at work.

There’s a pretty level desire for you to; keep kids entertained (93%), active (94%), happy and confident (94%) and interacting with their peers (91%) during the holidays.

Your child’s development is also a priority, with 76% agreeing or strongly agreeing that you want your child to learn a new skill or develop a new interest in the holidays.

We’re pleased that we can off all the advantages (keeping active, making new friends and learning a new skill) that parents are looking for in the current environment.
