More parents participating in summer activities with their children?

While school sports days are meant to be about the children, a new study has shown that mums and dads are taking their share of the glory.

According to the Guardian, a survey by Apos Therapy has suggested that more parents are taking part in their children's activities by entering relays, three-legged races and egg and spoon events.

The newspaper offered some advice to mums and dads who want to make sure they get involved with their kids' sports days by recommending the use of trainers, warming up and not taking competitions too seriously.

David Castle, editor of Running Fitness magazine, told the publication: "It's a tortoise-and-hare scenario. If you just aim to finish, you might find you come first anyway because everyone else has fallen over."

The BBC recently reported calls have been made by politician James Perchard for an increase in the level of competitive activities for children, as school curriculums may not provide enough.
