Range of factors 'may lead to inactivity among children'
Published on 28-06-2010
Summary: There are a number of barriers in the way of some children taking part in activities to promote their health, it has been claimed.

Activities for children are not readily accessible for everyone and this can prevent them from having a healthy lifestyle.
This is according to Lucy Jones, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, who suggested that not everyone lives near to a good outdoor space, meaning parents may be unable to send their youngsters out to play as often as they would like.
Such people may benefit from investigating options such as summer camps, where youngsters can engage in a range of sports and other pastimes.
Ms Jones suggested that while a certain amount of information gets through to families concerning how to promote healthy lifestyles among children, often there are barriers in the way of people making "adequate lifestyle changes".
The expert added: "That might be to do with socio-economic status, education [and] environment [or] they may not have good cooking facilities or a nearby playground."
Recently, Andrew Brown suggested in the Daily Telegraph that the number of youngsters taking part in activities has fallen in the UK.
