Kids 'should do more activities that connect with nature'

Parents need to encourage their kids to do more activities in the garden as not doing so could impoverish children, according to one expert.

In an article for the Telegraph, Cassandra Jardine discussed the advice set out in a new book by Richard Louv called Last Child in the Woods.

Ms Jardine noted the volume suggested there are a range of activities that youngsters can do to connect with nature, including digging a pond, setting up a bird bath and growing plants.

The news provider also indicated kids should be persuaded to do more walking and the Ramblers stated this can be done by telling youngsters they are going on an adventure rather than a walk.

Last month, Diane Lewis - winner of an Olympic gold medal - stated mums and dads need to drum home the message that activity is important, as it is not just about keeping fit; it is also a way for families to spend quality time together.
