Sandwell police urge kids to try activities rather than walk the streets

Summary: Police officers in Birmingham want children to try new activities rather than cause criminal damage or act in an anti-social manner during the school holidays.

Children in Birmingham are being encouraged to try new activities by Sandwell Police in a bid to cut the number of anti-social behaviour incidents in the area during the half-term break.
Police want youngsters in the region to think about other people and be wary of how their behaviour could affect members of the public.
A range of activities have been laid on for kids in the area by Just Youth to keep them off the streets, including football and drawing and children can also attend photography workshops.
Youngsters will get the chance to take part in arts and crafts to help create a sculpture to celebrate the Fifa World Cup.
Chief Inspector Paul Betts has welcomed the plans and he said criminal damage rises over school holidays as youngsters get bored, which means they are more likely to scratch cars, commit graffiti and damage bus shelters.
He added that parents need to keep a close eye on their offspring as anyone caught will be dealt with robustly.
