Kids urged to get active and walk to school

Children across the UK are being encouraged to walk to school in a bid to keep active and learn about road safety.

National Walk to School Week starts on May 17th and parents are being urged to ditch the car and let their offspring travel to school by foot.

Living Streets is behind the initiative and chief executive Tony Armstrong said that even if families live too far to walk all the way they could drive and park away from the academic facility and stroll for the remainder of the journey.

He remarked: "Not only will you miss the rush to find a parking space, but you will also help ease congestion around the school and fit in some exercise for you and your children."

Jules Petty from the University of Essex recently claimed spending five minutes a day outside participating in activities can make a difference to a person's wellbeing.

He stated 'green exercise' benefits youngsters, individuals who are stressed and those who suffer with mental illness.
