Gymnastic activities for children 'prove a success'
Published on 03-04-2010
Summary: Children at a South Lanarkshire school are enjoying learning new skills, it has been noted.

Those who think schoolchildren should be given the opportunity to try new activities may be pleased to learn that a South Lanarkshire scheme has seen youngsters enjoying six weeks of gymnastics.
The Active Schools programme is financed by the Integrated Children Service Locality Challenge bid fund and joined pupils from primary schools across the area in lessons held at Greenhills Play Barn, the East Kilbride News reports.
Deputy headteacher at Crosshouse primary school Debbie MacKenna said: "This is the third year the children have had the opportunity to take part in the gymnastics sessions and it was wonderful to see them participating so readily and enjoying themselves."
She added that staff and students look forward to these activities with equal delight, adding that the benefits extend to social skills, motor neuron development and teamwork.
It was recently suggested by Adrian Voce of Play England that activities for children would be a key voting issue in the coming elections.
